You may have noticed that certain "clean" brands resort to unethical, fear-mongering tactics in order to gain sales. This includes claiming perfectly safe, beneficial, ingredients are toxic, and perpetuating harmful myths (such as "over 60% of chemicals applied to the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream").
As scientists, it is our duty to be truthful and transparent about the ingredients in our formulas. We want you to know that the vast majority of the ingredients used in North America and Europe have been rigorously tested and are safe for you to use. However, we respect your personal preferences, and recognize that there are many different reasons why someone may want to avoid certain ingredients.
For example, we choose not to formulate with silicones because of their tendency to cause balling up and pilling when other products, such as sunscreen and makeup, are applied. By avoiding silicones, our Green Tea Gel Cream and All-Over Oil Balm are always the perfect canvas for the rest of your routine.
There are other categories of ingredients that we refuse to formulate with altogether, such as skin lighteners and microplastics. For more information on microplastics in skincare, read our guide.
Other common ingredients, such as stabilizers and texturizers, simply aren't needed in our formulas. This is because our products are freshly Made-to-Order, and shipped straight to you, instead of waiting on store shelves for months and maybe years. Excluding these also saves room for fitting in as many functional ingredients into our bottles as technically possible.
